Mr. Big is a male anthropomorphic Arctic shrew and a supporting character in Zootopia. A member of the Big family, he is the father of Fru Fru, the father-in-law of Fru Fru's Hussband, and the soon-to-be grandfather of Judy. He is also the leader of his mafia.

Appearance[]

Physical Appearance[]

Mr. Big is an old grey arctic shrew with a pink nose, pink three toed feet, pink four clawed paws, black hair, heavy black eyebrows covering his blue eyes.

When he migrated to Zootopia as a child, his blue eyes weren’t covered by his eyebrows and they remained revealed during his wedding day as well.

Attire[]

Mr Big wears a white shirt under a black buttoned vest and black suit with a red boutonnière in the left side of his chest and black bow tie, white spats, and a ring with a tiny diamond on his right hand pinky finger.

As a young shrew, Mr. Big used to wear buttoned brown pants with pockets on both sides, a white shirt with brown vertical stripes under a brown a buttoned vest and a dark brown open jacket with buttons and pockets on both sides and he also wore a light brown newsboy hat.

Personality[]

Mr. Big is powerful crime lord that strikes fear into many animals that are on the know of his dreadful reputation. Once a sweet and gentle shrew that went through much hardship and felt like an outcast because of his small size, after Mr. Big learned what it meant to stick up for those he cared about, he grew into a calm and dignified shrew that was respected by many. Despite his seemingly coldhearted nature, Mr. Big is actually a shrew that cherishes his friends and family that make him show that he is an honorable and loving mammal that is very kindhearted to those who show him kindness as well.

As a young shrew, Mr. Big used to be an optimistic mammal that looked forward towards a bright future for himself and his family. Like many young animals, Mr. Big too saw Zootopia as a dreamland where everything is possible, and remained optimistic even when his expectations didn’t turn out like he hoped. Because life was hard for him and his hardworking grandmother, Mr. Big felt the necessity to do everything right to improve his family life and the thought of failing ate away at the young shrew, but the gentleness of his Grandmama made him feel strong. Obviously, because he was a small shrew living in a big city with huge animals, Mr. Big felt frightened by those who were bigger than him, but as life became easier and more fun, Mr. Big became friendly with big mammals too. Mr. Big was also a very sympathetic shrew and wished to help those in need despite his own poor life, showing that he had a big and generous heart, which got him many friends that Mr. Big cherished greatly. This selflessness was what made him much more braver in confronting those stronger than him to protect those he cared about. Because of the encounter with a criminal gang that made his friends and Grandmama suffer, Mr. Big decided to become a mammal that everyone respected as to never get pushed around again for his small size, all in order to keep those that were precious to him safe from harm and humiliation. To keep his power over those that he did not see as friends, Mr. Big demanded respect which he mostly gained from fear, and had little to no mercy to those that threatened or disrespected him or his family and friends, having them killed without hesitation, which made him the most feared crime boss in Tundratown. Despite his ruthlessness, Mr. Big can show mercy to those who disrespect him, by subjecting them to his will or sparing them with a warning.

Mr. Big treasures his family more than anything else in the world, which is a trait that he has always maintained ever since he was a child. Friends to Mr. Big are as precious as family and he is quick to make them from acquaintances and employees, whom he treats hospitably and respectfully. But if any friends of his take advantage of his generosity only for their own personal benefit and betray the crime boss in a disrespectful way, Mr. Big can become a very dangerous adversary to that ex-friend by letting them off with a warning, which means life-or-death for the said mammal. Nevertheless, Mr. Big‘s gratitude to those who show him great kindness exceeds the grudges he may have and let’s bygones be bygones for the sake of a new friendship. Although, he values family greatly, the crime lord can be a little extreme when it comes to handling family members that make trouble and even though he appreciates the fact of the family expanding, his blood relatives are far more precious than his in-laws, whom he threatens to make sure that his loved ones are treated well.

Mr. Big is very wise and sees origins as an important part of a mammal’s life, likely because he came from humble beginnings and rose to power after the lessons he learned from that life, which is why he believes that the animals still have their primordial ancestors‘ wild instincts deep within themselves despite having evolved, being a crucial part of their existence. Mt. Big also doesn’t care about the species of his friends, willing to be a good and honorable shrew to anyone he considers a trustworthy friend.

Powers and Abilities[]

Physical Abilities[]

As an old little shrew, Mr. Big is not considered a threat because of his small size and age, seen mostly sitting in his chair and rarely moving.

In his younger days, Mr. Big was very agile and quick, managing to make his way unharmed in the walkway where huge animals could squash the tiny shrew. He was a very good and bold cyclist, feeling strong and fearless. Even though he was small, his size made it possible for Mr. Big to enter small places and be hard to catch by big animals.

Social Abilities[]

Mr. Big’s greatest power is his mafia comprised of huge bulky polar bears that follow his every command. It’s also the reason many animals fear him. Charisma is also another powerful gift that Mr. Big has had ever since he was child, making loyal and powerful friends that have helped the shrew a lot in his life.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Making a Fresh Start[]

When Mr. Big was a young shrew, he lived in the Old Country with his family. One day, during 19??, young Mr. Big left his home with his Grandmama to visit Zootopia with the hope of building a strong community for their people in the city of many possibilities. They got on a boat and the two shrews bid their family farewell, with Mr. Big promising to bring them to their new home as well. It was a scary journey for the small shrews who were only a few meters away from the animal city, and the moment Mr. Big saw it, he became overjoyed and pointed to his Grandmama to look at the magnificent view.

Ashore, young Mr. Big walked around Zootopia with his Grandmama, filled with so much hope, believing that such a big city would have big things to offer. However, his hopes were dashed when they discovered that the small mammals like shrews and mice struggled with their daily lives, facing many challenges and difficulties as a result of Zootopia being mostly designed for average sized mammals. This revelation made Mr. Big doubt if Zootopia was really a place for all kinds of animals, but it didn’t stop him from giving it a chance with Grandmama‘s encouragement and a shoe box that they stumbled upon in a road and redesigned it as their new home.

Small Shrew, Big City[]

Once the renovations finished, Grandmama decided to open a bakery business called „Grandmama’s Bakery“ and Mr. Big gladly learned from his grandmother‘s experience in baking and enjoyed her fantastical creations. To help his Grandmama‘s business grow, young Mr. Big became her delivery shrew, much to the elderly shrew‘s joy, who advised her grandson to be careful on the way while handing his first delivery box with her baked goods, something which he really needed to be due to his small size and how other mammals could barely notice him. This made Mr. Big‘s delivery very intense especially at crosswalks avoiding cars, bicycles and pedestrians walking. He did make it safely much to his relief, although covered in dirt along with the delivery box. In a nearby neighborhood in the sidewalks, Mr. Big saw for the first time the ugly side of Zootopia, once he encountered a rhino crime boss and his criminal gang of a snow wolf and a weasel mugging a rabbit, much to the young shrew‘s horror. When the rhino boss turned to him, Mr. Big became scared and ran away as fast as he could to avoid a confrontation, but he tripped over and dropped the box which got crushed by a pedestrian covering a shocked Mr. Big‘s face in cream.

An ashamed Mr. Big returned to his home with tears in his eyes, feeling very sorry that he failed his Grandmama in his first delivery. But the kindhearted shrew comforted her grandson, not being mad at all and praising little Mr. Big for his big heart, and showed him a delivery bicycle much to Mr. Big‘s surprise and joy. The bicycle made Mr. Big‘s delivery way easier, no longer being as terrifying as before, with the young shrew handling crosswalks baldly and easily. He succeeded in making his first delivery to a mice couple with the wife wishing for the young shrew to send her best to his Grandmama, handing the shrew a coin, which Mr. Big hid in his hat and happily waved goodbye. All the coins Mr. Big gathered were saved in a big jar, which only got filled more and more with the business growing and Mr. Big finally feeling a sense of belonging in Zootopia with each delivery he made to the small mice, some being the one sleeping in a traffic light and many living in cardboard boxes. Soon the coin jar was filled, and the business expanded to big mammals as well.

Making a Friend[]

One day, Mr. Big carried 3 big boxes of baked goods in a red wagon and went to the customers with a little push from his Grandmama, who wished her grandson to have fun. Once he made it, Mr.Big happily watched the three beavers enjoying their baked goods, with one throwing a coin to the little shrew. Before he went back to his deliveries, Mr. Big noticed some polar bears in a laneway suffering from extreme heat, which made the young shrew feel sympathy for them, and wished to do something to help them. Noticing an ice cream maker next to him, Mr. Big bought an ice cream cone with his coin and approached the polar bears, and tried to hand over the ice cream cone to an exhausted polar bear cub, who gladly accepted the gift, and with that out of the way, the young shrew went back to his deliveries with the happy polar bear cub waving goodbye.

During a delivery to a tiger, the doorbell was too high up for Mr. Big. Feeling lost as to what to do, Mr. Big was lifted by the polar bear cub from before, much to his surprise and joy. With the doorbell now in reach, Mr. Big rang it with the polar bear cub handing the goody box over to the tiger customer who gratefully paid the cub for the delivery. Mr. Big then made friends with the polar bear cub, Koslov, who helped the shrew in his deliveries as thanks for his kindhearted generosity. Soon Mr. Big made many new friends, who also started raising their own businesses, inspired from Grandmama‘s Bakery small, but very successful business.

Making a Change[]

But one day, while Mr. Big was heading for another delivery, his path was blocked by the Rhino Crime Boss who made him fall from his bike and made him drop his delivery box and the money which was stolen from the snow wolf thug, and the little shrew watched in horror as the thugs destroyed his friends‘ grocery stands and the Rhino crushed the bicycle his Grandmama gifted him, much to the shrew‘s sorrow. When Koslov defended him but got threatened by the cruel Rhino, it made Mr. Big very scared to see his friend in danger and the his Grandmama‘s savings getting stolen from the criminal gang.

All ran away and hid, and Mr. Big looked at his grandmother hiding behind a garbage bin whispering for his grandson to hide as well. But seeing his friend Koslov in danger, made Mr. Big very angry and refused to leave him behind. It was at this moment that the little shrew decided to stop getting pushed around by the big mammals and went to the laneway where the Rhino was holding Koslov. Mr. Big ordered the crime boss to put his friend down, and ordered him one more time to put the bear down when the Rhino became confused. But the Rhino crime boss angrily lashed out at the small shrew, much to Mr. Big‘s fright and hid in a small hole just as the Rhino was about to crush him with his foot. Once he got out of the hole, Mr. Big laughed at realizing the advantage of his small size and climbed inside the Rhino‘s clothes which tickled the big mammal, who let go of the bear cub. Once Mr. Big reached the Rhino’s head, he tipped his hat down to blindfold him and ran away with Koslov, but his path was blocked with nowhere to run. Seeing the Rhino charging towards him, Mr. Big whistled to his friends and told them to „ice em‘“. Mr. Big‘s friends threw a trash bin at the furious Rhino‘s head, made him crash to a ladder, Koslov pulled a rope to make him trip and Grandmama threw her rolling pin to make the crime boss slip, where he crashed through the fence fell to an ice factory where he literally got iced and got pulled out frozen in an ice cube. Mr. Big became happy along with his friends and family that the Rhino crime boss was no longer a problem to their community, and shared a look with his friend Koslov.

Building a Community[]

After that, Mr. Big was reunited with his whole family, who made it to Zootopia thanks to Koslov‘s help in carrying the boat there safely from the Old Country. Eventually Grandmama‘s bakery grew bigger, to the point that it welcomed mammals of all sizes. Mr. Big and Koslov also helped the polar bears who were still suffering from extreme heat by making it snow for them, by shredding ice cubes, making it cold enough for the polar bears to relax. Fed up getting pushed around and looked down upon, Mr. Big became the new crime boss of the weasel and the snow wolf thugs that served the Rhino with Koslov becoming his righthand bear, which was only the beginning of his career as a crime lord. To show their allegiance to him, Mr. Big demanded the Rhino’s former thugs to kiss his tiny ring, which they did nervously. With his new friends, subordinates and polar bears‘ help, Mr. Big started building a place where the tiny mammals could live in peace with no worries. Thus he became the founder of Little Rodentia. A community where little mammals wouldn’t go threw the same strife he went through. He cuts the red ribbon with a scissor to make its opening official and waves at the cheering crowd while being carried in Koslov‘s right paw, who is carrying Grandmama in his left paw and brings the two shrews together. When Grandmama expresses how proud she is of her grandson, her praise touches Mr. Big, who is happy that in the end Zootopia became what he hoped it would be.

Life of a Crime Lord[]

Due to his fearsome reputation and large group of supporters, Mr. Big had grown into the most fearsome crime lord in Tundratown and had also grown his own family after he married a beautiful shrew, who gave birth to a beloved daughter he cherished greatly. At some point he became the leader of his own mafia comprised of powerful and very loyal polar bears that wait on him hand and foot, with his best friend, Koslov, still serving as his righthand bear. Emmitt Otterton was also hired by Mr. Big as his florist, whom he treated as part of the family.

At some point in time, Mr. Big became acquainted with Nick Wilde, whom the crime boss treated very kindly, by being a hospitable host to the fox enjoying food in his home with the shrew’s precious Grandmama. It was a happy time until Mr. Big bought from the fox a very expensive rug made from the butt of a skunk, which disgraced both Mr. Big and his grandmother, the latter whom Mr. Big buried in the hideous rug after she passed away shortly. This was seen as an act of betrayal to Mr. Big, who put a lot of faith in Nick, and the crime boss held a grudge against the shifty fox, but nonetheless allowed him to leave with a warning to never show his face to him ever again. (This simple act was enough to make Mr. Big renounce his friendly terms with the fox, having been disgraced by Nick for his insensitive purchase that the shrew was forced to bury his own deceased Grandmama in, disgracing even the one the crime lord held precious in the process.)

Ten days before his daughter’s wedding day, Mr. Big was informed by Emmitt Otterton that he had something important he needed to discuss with his employer and friend, and thus the crime lord sent a limousine to pick him up, but the otter never arrived. Instead, Mr. Big was approached by his driver, Renato Manchas, who was brutally injured and terrified from the horrific experience he went through while escorting Mr. Otterton, much to Mr. Big’s shock. The injured driver explained to the crime lord that Emmitt had attacked him while driving, destroying the car in a savage way and disappeared in the night.

Daughter‘s Wedding[]

An Unexpected Visitor[]

Ten days later, during his daughter’s wedding day, Mr. Big looks at his Grandmama’s portrait and gives it an air kiss, before it shatters and falls down as a result of Fru Fru and her friends’ screams. Later during that night, Mr. Big is informed about Nick Wilde‘s trespassing in his parking lot and is carried to his office by Koslov in his paws, and put down on the table while sitting in his chair and confronts the fox, who is accompanied by a bunny. When Nick starts talking, Mr. Big shows the fox his ring, reminding him to pay his respect first to the crime lord, which Nick does by kissing his tiny ring. Mr. Big explains his displeasure at Nick for coming to his home unannounced during his daughter’s wedding, but the fox humorously corrects him by stating that he was brought against his will by his henchbears, which Mr. Big finds disrespectful. Even though Nick apologizes for his intrusion and especially during the wedding of the mafia leader‘s daughter, Mr. Big expresses his disappointment by reminiscing Nick‘s last visit here, which was a happy time for them together with Mr. Big‘s Grandmama. But it turned into a scandal when Nick sold him a rug made from the butt of a skunk, a skunk-butt-rug as Mr. Big referred it to, something that Nick felt ashamed about. This was an act of great disrespect to both the crime lord and his grandmother, the latter who Mr. Big buried in that rug, much to Koslov’s sadness. Mr. Big reminds Nick about the warning he gave the fox to never show his face to the crime lord ever again, which he did on a very important occasion along with the stranger bunny, whom Mr. Big is confused by the appearance and asks her if she is a performer wearing a costume. Before the bunny can answer, Nick interrupts her, and tells the shrew that the stranger is a mime, who is forbidden to speak. But when the bunny reveals that she is a cop and accuses the shrew as the primary suspect in the disappearance of Emmit Otterton, it causes the offended Mr. Big to lose his patience and makes a request to the fox and the bunny to say hello to his Grandmama in the afterlife, and angrily orders his polar bear henchmen to ice them. As Raymond and Kevin grab Nick and the bunny, the fox begs for mercy, swearing that he didn’t see anything and isn’t saying anything, which Mr. Big agrees, stating that he never will after this. Mr. Big ignores Nick‘s pleas as both he and the bunny cop are slowly thrown into the hidden icing pool in the office.

Suddenly, Mr. Big‘s daughter, Fru Fru appears and informs her father that it’s time for them to dance together, much to his surprise, but her attention is then pulled into the fox and the bunny that are being held by the polar bears over the icing pool. When Fru Fru realizes what is happening and gets angry that her father is not keeping his promise of not making any corpses during her big day, Mr. Big asks for her daughter to understand that he really needs to do this and orders the bears to ice the two mammals, which they proceed to do, but are halted by Fru Fru, who reveals to her father that the bunny they intend on icing is the same one that saved her life in Little Rhodentia from the giant donut. This revelation surprises Mr. Big. Feeling bad that he was making such a bad impression on the savior of his daughter, the mafia leader asks Raymond and Kevin to put them down, which they do gently and cover the icy pool. Mr. Big expresses his gratitude to the bunny for the great service she has done to the shrew and offers to help her find the missing otter as a thanks for the cop‘s kindness, and wishes to kiss her cheeks, which the bunny happily accepts. Having forgiven Nick for the skunk-butt-rug fiasco , Mr. Big invites both him and the bunny cop, Judy, to the wedding where they get acquainted.

A Moral Backstory for the Family[]

During the wedding celebration, Mr. Big stands by his daughter side when the whole family takes a picture of themselves during the special event. As the shrew family celebrates by eating, drinking and dancing, while the polar bear bodyguards keep watch around the venue, Mr. Big is held by Koslov‘s paws and put down at the table. Seeing that one of the wedding guests has gotten drunk and is making a little mess, it disturbs the crime lord, who shares a look with Koslov, which the big polar bear understands what the shrew wants him to do, and grabs the drunk shrew and ices him. Now that the venue is quiet, Mr. Big expresses his joy to see his daughter so happy with her new husband, family, friends and community, but the father of the bride reveals that their family life wasn’t always this happy and fulfilling. Mr. Big starts telling his childhood backstory to the guests. He reveals that he and his family originated from the Old Country before coming to Zootopia. Some time during the 20th century, a year that the old shrew has it hard to remember, Mr. Big explains the journey of how he and his Grandmama were the first of the family to sail towards Zootopia, which was only a few meters away from their small country. He continues to explain how they came to the city with the hope of living a better life, but it’s first impression disappointed the shrews, who witnessed the harsh environment for the tiny mammals of the city, who struggled greatly in their daily lives. Nonetheless, the shrews made their residence there, where Mr. Big‘s Grandmama opened a bakery, and young Mr. Big was her delivery shrew. Mr. Big remembers the hard time he had around big animals walking around and endangering his life with every step, seeing the criminal activity going around Zootopia, which made young Mr. Big feel very scared and defenseless. But there were happy times for Mr. Big too, remembering the bicycle his Grandmama made him as one of the things he loved most, which made his career as a delivery shrew way easier and raised his spirit too. Grandmama‘s bakery made Mr. Big feel a sense of belonging in the big city and it also made him unexpected friends too, one of them being the polar bear cub, Koslov, who became his best friend after a gentle act of kindness from the tiny shrew, and soon the shrews‘ business became popular among the citizens of Zootopia. But after an encounter with a nasty Rhino Crime Boss, young Mr. Big changed as well, becoming balder and more decisive in protecting those he cared about, which gave him the strength to stand up to the cruel crime boss and even beat him with help of his friends, who also helped in reuniting the shrew family from across the ravine, which was only the beginning of how well things were moving forward for the family business as well as the community. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Big, jobs were available to all those who were in need and a city designed for the small mammals was founded by the little shrew, Little Rodentia. It was a humble beginning which led to great prosperity.

With his story finished, Mr. Big tells the audience the reason behind his story is to treasure those who are family, while looking at his Grandmama’s painting with her baked goods underneath. He also adds that the friends one chooses makes them family, showing his glass to an adult Kaslov, who also raises his glass with the iced drunk shrew inside, standing by his childhood friend even after many years. Mr. Big sees the things he mentioned as what makes little guys never feel small. This story and moral, brings the bride to tears, and Mr. Big praises the groom for choosing his daughter to be his wife. But the crime lord also gives him a warning that if Fru Fru‘s husband ever hurts his little girl in any way, his son-in-law is as good as iced while showing his frightening eyes, which gets the shrew nervous. Mr. Big makes a toast to the new couple with the whole party cheering.

Post-Party Talk[]

After the celebration is over and the party calms down, Mr. Big talks to Judy and Nick, explaining that Emmitt Otterton is his dear florist, whom he treats like a part of his family. The shrew explains that Otterton had something important to tell him, which is why he sent the car Judy and Nick snuck into to pick him up, but the otter never arrived. Judy believes that Otterton was attacked, but Mr. Big corrects her, that it was Otterton who attacked, which confuses the cop. Mr. Big explains that Otterton went on a crazy rampage, by ripping the car, scaring his driver half to death, and disappeared into the night. This revelation surprises Judy, wondering why a sweet little otter would act in such a brutal way. Mr. Big tells his new friend that even though the animals may have evolved mentally, their primordial instincts still remain deep within them, which makes Judy and Nick even more concerned and confused. Mr. Big advises that they go meet his driver, Manchas, in order to learn more about Otterton‘s disappearance, since he was the only mammal that last saw him and witnessed his crazy behavior first hand. Mr. Big gives them the driver’s address and bids the duo goodbye as they head to the Rainforest District to investigate further.

A Favor for the Godmother[]

Two to three months after the wedding, when Judy and Nick are interrogating Duke Weaselton, who refuses to talk, they ask for Mr. Big’s help into making the weasel spill important information they need, which the crime boss gladly does. In his office, Mr. Big orders Raymond to ice the weasel, getting Duke Weaselton terrified. When the weasel insults him and berates the crime boss for helping the bunny that is a cop, Mr. Big adds that Judy is most importantly the godmother he designated to his future granddaughter, whom the pregnant Fru Fru states that she’ll be named after Judy, which touches the bunny and makes Mr. Big chuckle in joy. Mr. Big orders Raymond to have the weasel iced, but after Duke Weaselton broke and revealed the information the bunny and the fox needed, the shrew spared him from an icy death.

A few days after the savage crisis is resolved, Mr. Big attends Gazelle‘s concert along with his pregnant daughter, dancing together on his friend Koslov‘s paws and enjoying the evening with his family.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Grandmama[]

Grandmama is Mr. Big‘s deceased grandmother, whom Mr. Big has loved and continues to respect, seeing her as the inspiration that has made it possible for him to create a great and fulfilling family. Mr. Big keeps many portraits of her as mementos of his dearly beloved grandmother, never forgetting all the memories he had with her or the lessons she taught him. If anyone were to ever disrespect her, it made the crime lord very angry that he‘d have them iced, unless they had a connection to his family.

When Mr. Big was a young shrew that migrated to Zootopia, Grandmama was the one accompanying him. Always standing by his side and comforting him. Mr. Big saw his grandmother as a very talented cook and appreciated the lessons she taught him on how to bake. It was thanks to her encouragement and compassion that Mr. Big appreciated the life he had in Zootopia, although difficult and rough because of how poor and small he was. Because he loved her so much, Mr. Big felt the need to help her as much as possible and whenever he messed up, it made him feel very bad about wasting her efforts because of his own mistakes. But Grandmama loved her grandson very much to be upset with him, valuing the size of his heart more than anything. Something that Mr. Big treasured greatly was the bicycle that his Grandmama made him, and when it was destroyed, it made the little shrew drown in sorrow to see his grandmother‘s gift in pieces. Thanks to Mr. Big‘s selfless efforts, his Grandmama‘s bakery business grew profoundly and it was only the beginning of his great success that led to the founding of Little Rodentia, which made Mr. Big very proud and happy to see it along with his Grandmama, always standing by his side.

Her passing was a painful experience for Mr. Big, especially after she was buried in the wool rug that was made from the butt of skunk, sold to him by the sly fox, Nicholas Wilde, whom both the crime boss and Grandmama treated very kindly. Because of this disgraceful act, Mr. Big threatened to ice Nick if he ever returned, holding a grudge against the fox for his betrayal against the shrews, but he let it go later when he learned that his acquaintance was the savior of his daughter.

Fru Fru[]

Fru Fru is the beloved daughter of Mr. Big, whom the crime boss loves deeply. Mr. Big cares greatly for his daughter and wishes for her to always be happy, and is not hesitant about threatening even those who are very close to her to make sure they treat her well. Mr. Big is careful not to upset her and keeps his promises to her, but when he is left with no choice, he is willing to secretly break them and when he gets exposed he still goes on with his decision asking for his daughter‘s understanding of the situation and the necessity behind it. Nevertheless, if people that disrespect him happen to be friends or have a connection with her daughter, Mr. Big is willing to forgive them and embrace them as his friends too. He respects his daughter’s decisions and enjoys spending quality time with her.

Fru Fru‘s husband[]

Fru Fru’s husband is Mr. Big‘s son-in-law. Not much is known about their relationship, but Mr. Big is happy for her daughter to have found a husband she loves. During the wedding celebration they appear to be on friendly terms. Mr. Big is happy to have an addition to the family that chose his daughter to be his wife, but Mr. Big doesn’t seem to know him very well, thus he threatens his son-in-law to never hurt his daughter in any way or he would be one of his iced victims as well, which got the groom very nervous and frightened of his wife’s ruthless father.

Morty[]

Morty is Mr. Big’s nephew. Mr. Big’s relationship with his nephew is unknown, but he doesn’t seem to like his nephew making a mess in his daughter’s wedding day, and has him iced though not fatally, to make sure Morty doesn’t make a scene in the venue.

Friends[]

Mafia[]

Mr. Big’s Mafia is a group of polar bears that work for the crime lord. As the boss of his mafia, Mr. Big is waited by the polar bears hand and foot, and they carry his orders without question, acting as his bodyguards and executioners. But because of his honorable nature, the shrew doesn’t see them as just employees, but as part of his family.

Mr. Big’s relationship with the polar bears dates way back, when the young shrew first came to Zootopia. It was one generous act that led to another that created a bond between the small shrew and the mighty bears, who came to respect Mr. Big and aided him in his ambitions and later in his life as a powerful crime boss.

Koslov[]

Koslov is Mr. Big’s righthand bear as well as his best friend. Mr. Big is very close to Koslov and cares for him like a little brother. They understand each other very well without the need for words and watch out for one another. Both have been through a lot together in their childhood, facing strife and overcoming it together which led to a successful future.

Mr. Big met Koslov when they were children. Not so long after he migrated to Zootopia with his Gram-mama, when he was making deliveries for his grandmother’s bakery, young Mr. Big saw the polar bear cub, Koslov, suffering from extreme heat and felt sympathy for the poor bear. He bought the cub an ice cream cone to help him cool down a little, which Koslov appreciated and went to help the young delivery shrew in his difficult times, much to Mr. Big’s delight and joy, making his first friend in the city of animals. Mr. Big cared for Koslov a lot, and seeing his friend in danger on his behalf, made the shrew very angry and much braver in confronting those bigger than him. It was because of his selfless desire to protect his friend that Mr. Big decided to never get pushed around again by those bigger than him and stand up to them for the sake of his family and friends. Thanks to Koslov’s help, Mr. Big was reunited with his entire family, and thanks to their efforts combined, they managed to help the polar bears suffering from extreme heat. After they defeated the Rhino Crime Boss, Mr. Big took his place as the boss of his criminal gang, with Koslov serving as his right hand bear, who always stood by his friend’s side.

Even as they grew up and became a fearsome mafia, Mr. Big’s feelings for Koslov didn’t change, seeing the polar bear as a precious friend and part of his extended family.

Emmitt Otterton[]

Emmitt Otterton is Mr. Big’s florist as well as a close friend of the crime lord, that the shrew values as part of the family. Not much is known about their relationship, but Mr. Big seemed to care for the otter, sending one of his limousines to pick him up so they could talk, and was rather disturbed by his sudden savage behavior and disappearance without a trace. It’s likely that after Emmitt was cured, he was happy to have his florist returned to normal and continued to remain friends.

Renato Manchas[]

Renato Manchas is Mr. Big’s chauffeur. His relationship with the panther is unknown, but when Mr. Big learned what happened, he believed Renato about Emmitt going savage and seeing his chauffeur badly injured and frightened was very disturbing to the crime boss. It’s likely that after Renato went savage like Otterton he felt bad for the panther and relieved after he was cured.

Judy Hopps[]

Judy is a very close friend of Mr. Big as well as the godmother of his future granddaughter. Mr. Big is very fond of Judy and loves her like a daughter. He is always willing to help her in need, using the power of his mafia to aid the bunny in her troubles.

When they first met, Judy was found snooping in one of his limousines along with Nick Wilde, whom Mr. Big held great animosity towards. At first he didn’t know what to make of the bunny‘s appearance, thinking she might be a performer wearing a costume. But after Judy reveals that she is a cop and makes a bold accusation against the crime lord, Mr. Big saw her as a disrespectful animal that deserved the same fate as the treacherous fox, Nick. Icy death. Even though his daughter reminded the crime boss that he wouldn’t ice anyone during her wedding, Mr. Big still intended to ice the bunny for her great disrespect. But after Fru Fru revealed that the bunny cop was the mammal that saved her life, it surprised him. Realizing the great misjudgment he made to the heroic bunny, Mr. Big spared Judy and her acquaintance, Nick, whom the shrew also forgave for his transgressions, and expressed his gratitude to the former for the great service she had to the family and even kissed her out of admiration. Mr. Big was willing to help Judy in any way he could, by giving her valuable information in the case she was investigating and used the power as a mafia boss to get people to cooperate with his friend’s requests by lending her the support and power of his subordinates. He was proud to designate Judy as the godmother of his future granddaughter, and was happy to know she would be named after the bunny. Even though Judy had unintentionally caused discrimination for the predators, Mr. Big held no grudges towards her at all.

Mr. Big and Judy also share a remarkably similar background with each other. Both being seemingly harmless mammals that were looked down upon because of their size and species, but they both seized the opportunity to become great animals that changed Zootopia for the better, thanks to their precious friends that inspired them to change themselves.

Nick Wilde[]

Nick is a former adversary turned friend of Mr. Big. While he previously had a good relationship with the fox when they first met, it broke apart because of Wilde‘s deceitful nature, and it was restored when they met again because Nick was acquainted with his daughter’s savior. Mr. Big is very hospitable to Nick, offering him snacks and refreshments.

Mr. Big met Nick some time ago and became a close friend to the fox, despite being a fearsome crime boss. He put a lot of trust in Nick, finding his species as a fox irrelevant due to his own beliefs in friendship and family, welcoming the fox to his home to enjoy their time together with Mr. Big‘s precious Grandmama making Nick cannoli to enjoy. It was a time Mr. Big enjoyed himself to see his friend become close to his family. All was well until the con-artist took advantage of the powerful crime lord’s generosity and trust to benefit for himself by selling Mr. Big a very expensive wool rug made from the fur of a skunk’s butt, that the shrew found as an act of great disrespect to both himself and his kind grandmother, who was buried in the rug. Mr. Big was very hurt at Nick‘s betrayal, having hoped that he was really a trustworthy friend. But despite the fox’s transgression, Mr. Big was merciful enough to allow his former friend leave unscathed with a warning to never return or show his face to the crime lord. Mr. Big continued to harbor the grudge against the fox for some time after the incident, which made Nick very frightened of the crime lord’s anger.

When they met again after Nick was found trespassing and snooping around in one of his limousines, the first thing Mr. Big demanded from the fox was to show his respect by kissing the crime lord’s tiny ring before mouthing off. Mr. Big found Nick‘s sudden and unexpected return rather displeasing and especially since it was during his beloved daughter’s wedding day. Still, Mr. Big felt great pain about the wool rug scandal and couldn’t bring himself to forgive Nick about his insensitive actions that had disgraced him and Grandmama. And the fact that Nick was accompanied by a bunny cop that made a bold accusation against the crime lord regarding one of his employees that he cared for, didn’t make things any better for the fox, who lied about her profession being a mime. Seeing that Nick was still the same untrustworthy mammal like before, Mr. Big was very disappointed in the fox, whom the crime boss sentenced with icing along with the bunny, ignoring Nick’s pleas and not sparing him even when his daughter scolded him for breaking his promise of icing people during her wedding. But before he could do away with the fox, Mr. Big learned from his daughter that Nick’s bunny associate is the same cop that saved Fru Fru‘s life, which made the crime boss feel very indebted to the bunny, that it made the seemingly merciless shrew spare Nick and even let bygones be bygones, thus rekindling their friendship. With his grudge against Nick lifted, Mr. Big invited the fox along with Judy to Fru Fru’s wedding where he was offered snacks and even months later, Mr. Big continued to see Nick in a positive light, seen by how he was relaxing when the crime boss was interrogating Duke Weaselton.

Enemies[]

Duke Weaselton[]

Not much is known about Mr. Big’s relationship with the Duke of Weaselton, but the weasel knows about the shrew’s dreadful reputation. It’s unknown if he learned that Weaselton was responsible for almost getting his daughter killed by a giant doughnut. Either way, Mr. Big was willing to ice the small time criminal as per Judy’s request to make him cooperate with the godmother of his future granddaughter. After Weaselton revealed what Judy needed to know, Mr. Big spared him from an icy death.

Rhino Crime Boss[]

The Rhino Crime Boss is Mr. Big’s former childhood enemy, that Mr. Big managed to defeat with the help of his friends and succeeded him as the boss of his criminal gang.

When young Mr. Big first encountered him during his first delivery for Grandmama’s Bakery, seeing the criminal activity he was conducting with his subordinates, frightened the small shrew, realizing that Zootopia wasn’t the perfect place he thought it was. When Mr. Big confronted the Rhino, the shrew was paralyzed with fear and didn’t know what to do. Seeing the crime boss destroy his bicycle that Grand-mama made for him, left Mr. Big very depressed. When the Rhino grabbed Koslov, who stood up for the shrew, Mr. Big felt very frightened, but his fear turned into anger after seeing how the cruel rhino was bullying his best friend. Gathering his courage, Mr. Big stood up to the huge rhino and was able to beat him using his small size and the aid of his friends, making the Rhino Crime Boss his first iced victim. With the Rhino Crime Boss out of the way, things became better for Mr. Big and his family.
